U.S. Work
Morningstar Fishermen has a strong commitment to developing backyard aquaponic systems. We believe the way to overcome high food prices, the concern of chemically treated and genetically modified foods, and the scare of future food scarcity is to simply grow your own food! We want to thank the dozens that have asked us to be a part of their solutions.

The River - Brandon, FL
We are so excited to introduce our aquaponic project at The River @ Tampa Bay Church. The River Church started when Pastors Rodney and Adonica Howard-Browne had a desire to begin a church with the theme "Church with a Difference". We were approached by the church pastors with a desire to demonstrate the church with a difference by creating a method of sustainable food production. What resulted from those early conversations is the project that you see above. We have constructed a 13,000 gal aquaponics demonstration garden that will influence many to see themselves as producers and not just consumers.
The Sustainable Living Project - Tampa, FL
Bill Carey has spent most of his life feeding people - first as a chef, later as the executive director of Tampa Bay Harvest, an organization that gleans farm and restaurant food that would otherwise be thrown away and distributes it. But these days he's also committed to teaching people to feed themselves, a mission ripe for fruition as the urban farming movement takes root in cities across the nation. The Sustainable Living Project occupies a plot of land along the Hillsborough River, across from Lowry Park Zoo.
A growing number of homeowners are asking more from their property - such as the ability to raise livestock and fresh food. This is certainly an inventive way to maximize living space and make a dent in the grocery bill, but it doesn't come without commitment and hard work. Morningstar Fishermen has been training these urban farmers for over 20 years now. We are excited about what's happening with urban food production and it's potential relief to the willing urban family.

Pasco Regional Juvenile Detention Center - San Antonio, FL
Morningstar Fishermen went to Pasco Regional Juvenile Detention Center and assembled a 300 gallon floating raft aquaponic gardening system. To help get it started, MSF supplied JDC with 25 Blue Tilapia, herbs, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, and other plants. MSF donated delivery and setup of the system, and training, which included letting the juvenile inmates participate in the setup of the system. MSF’s former Executive Director, Phil Reasons, returned to teach two classes in JDC’s classroom. During the classes, the students asked many questions and were interested in benefiting from this style of living after they were released.
